Composite estimate: 70%. Need about 44% for a 3, 57% for a 4, and 70% for a 5.
Weights follow the selected format; bands are not validated exam cutoffs. Read the assumptions.
This estimate is already in the score 5 band.
Cutoff context: Cutoff sensitivity: 0 composite percentage points from the estimated score 5 cutoff. Small rubric or equating differences could change the estimated score band.
Target plan: Current inputs are already in the score 4 estimate band.
Study leverage: Highest available raw-point leverage: one more MCQ raw point adds about 1.2 composite points before final rounding; 13 raw points remain in that section. This compares score math, not study effort.
2026 College Board distribution: 20% earned 5; 65% earned 3 or higher.

Why the year matters for Calculus AB
From May 2027, the multiple-choice section has 29 questions without a calculator and 13 with one. It still contributes half the overall score. Six free-response questions make up the other half. Check College Board's current exam format.
For the same 30 correct MCQs, the MCQ contribution is 30 ÷ 42 × 50 = 35.71 points in the 2027 format, compared with 30 ÷ 45 × 50 = 33.33 points in the 2026 format. Choose the format of the paper you actually completed; selecting a newer year does not make that paper's score more accurate.
How the FRQ total is used
Add the rubric points on all six responses, each scored out of 9, to get a total out of 54. With 26 correct MCQs and 31 FRQ points in the 2027 format, the composite is 26 ÷ 42 × 50 + 31 ÷ 54 × 50 = 59.66. We round to 60%, which falls in our illustrative band 4. It is not an official 2027 conversion.
How to fill in this AP Calculus AB calculator
- Choose 2027 for a 42-MCQ practice paper or 2026 for a 45-MCQ paper. Changing the year resets the example inputs.
- Count all correct MCQs across calculator and no-calculator sections. Each correct MCQ has the same weight within this model.
- Score each free response using its specific scoring guidelines, then add the six rubric scores out of 9 to enter a total out of 54.
- Read the weighted breakdown before the score band. The official question format is known, but this site's illustrative cutoffs are not validated for either exam form.
Use College Board's scoring guidance or the rubric supplied with your practice paper. A teacher's feedback on why a point was earned is more useful than guessing a total from how an answer felt.

These invented practice inputs demonstrate our formula. They are not past students' results, official conversions, or minimum scores that guarantee a 3, 4, or 5.
| MCQ correct | Written rubric points | Rounded composite | Illustrative band |
|---|---|---|---|
| 18/42 | 25/54 | 45% | 3 |
| 26/42 | 31/54 | 60% | 4 |
| 32/42 | 38/54 | 73% | 5 |
Using a target score to plan practice
Start with one timed practice attempt. Enter only points you can justify against its rubric, then choose a target of 3, 4, or 5. The target plan shows changes that reach that band under this model. A raw point in one section may contribute more than a point in another, but that does not mean it takes less work to earn.
Near a band boundary, recheck uncertain rubric points and try a second practice paper. The cutoff-distance message describes the model's arithmetic; it is not a confidence interval or a probability of passing. Read the score-band assumptions and rounding rule.
